Mellifont Abbey, Collon, Co. Louth, Ireland, is home to a community of monks.

We live monastic life according to the Rule of St Benedict in the Cistercian tradition (O.C.S.O.).

In response to a personal vocation or calling from the Lord, we dedicate ourselves to the worship of God in a hidden life within the monastery.   In prayer and work, silence and community life, solitude and hospitality, in obedience, humility and joyful penitence, we seek God, follow Christ, and grow in love under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  Daily we praise the divine majesty and intercede for the needs of the world.

So, in the original Zovirax medication the active substance Acyclovir is obtained in a certain way, passes several stages of purification and is introduced into the medicine in the most active and safe form. All stages of the technology of obtaining the active substance, its purification and introduction into the finished medicinal product, are patented by the developer and constitute a commercial secret.
